Princess Juliana visits the new Jewish Invalide on the Weesperplein
She also visits the Liberal synagogue in the Tolstraat.
The Jewish Invalide is a modern institution for the disabled who are unable to look after themselves. This institution is known throughout the country because national collections were held to raise money for the building that is opened in 1937.
Weesperplein
Square in the centre of Amsterdam between the Sarphatistraat and the Nieuwe Achtergracht. To the west of this square is the Diamond Exchange, which was built in 1910. To the east of the square on the corner with the Nieuwe Achtergracht is the Joodsche Invalide nursing home. After the war, this building was taken over by the Amsterdam council and became the Weesperplein hospital and head office for the municipal health service.
