1937 Emigration to the Netherlands
In the summer of 1937, Peter van Pels and his parents moved to Amsterdam. They found a house in Amsterdam-Zuid, not far from Merwedeplein, where Anne Frank lived. Hermann, Peter’s father, started a textile business with an uncle but then quit and joined Pectacon, Otto Frank’s company. Pectacon dealt in herbs and spices for butchers, which was what Hermann had done in Germany.
