Deported to Auschwitz

On 3 September, Peter and his parents – just like the Frank family and Fritz Pfeffer – were put on transport to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. They arrived there after a journey that took 3 days and 3 nights. On the platform, Peter saw Anne and his mother for the last time. With his father, Otto Frank, and Fritz Pfeffer, Peter was sent to Auschwitz I, where he was put to work in the postal department. This would occasionally allow him to get extra food, which he shared with his father and Otto Frank. He was devastated when the Nazis sent Hermann van Pels to the gas chambers in early October. Peter remained in Auschwitz until mid-January 1945.
