When Miep Gies heard the terrible news, she handed Otto Anne’s diary, notebooks, and other texts. Miep and Bep had found Anne’s writings in the Secret Annex after the people in hiding had been arrested. Miep had kept them all this time, hoping to return them to Anne one day. Now she had to give everything to Otto. He was surprised: he had assumed that nothing from the Secret Annex had been preserved. At that point, Otto Frank had no idea that the rest of his life would revolve around Anne’s diary.
