Delegation for peace and solidarity at the Anne Frank House
Nov. 13, 2024 — A delegation of French imams, travelled to Amsterdam yesterday to firmly denounce the violent antisemitic attacks that occurred last Thursday against Israeli football supporters.
‘We cannot tolerate such manifestations of hate and violence.’
Signs in English, French, Arabic with messages like "Jews are our brothers. Together against hate" and "Muslims and Jews, united as brothers for peace" were held up by French imams alongside a French and a Dutch rabbi. The delegation laid white roses at the statue of Anne Frank at the Westermarkt as ‘an unyielding symbol of the struggle against antisemitism and the necessity of peaceful coexistence among communities’. Afterwards they visited the Anne Frank House.
The delegation for peace and solidarity calls on all religious and political leaders to stand up against antisemitism and to promote constructive interreligious dialogue. They also call on all citizens to join. “Together, we must work for a world free of discrimination, where peace and tolerance prevail.”
Ronald Leopold, executive director Anne Frank House: “We wholeheartedly support initiatives that bring people together to connect with one another. It is very important to act together to counter antisemitism and other forms of group hatred. Anne Frank's life story began with prejudice and preconceptions: issues that still lead to antisemitism and other forms of discrimination in the world today. As Anne Frank House we want to raise (young) people’s awareness of the dangers of anti-Semitism, racism and discrimination and the importance of freedom, equal rights and democracy – together with partners worldwide.”
