We were horrified to learn of the antisemitic violence that erupted last night in Amsterdam following the Ajax - Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer match. On the evening of the National Kristallnacht commemoration, Amsterdam became the scene of unprecedented organized violence by pro-Palestinian rioters targeting supporters of the Israeli club. Several people were injured as a result.
Ronald Leopold, executive director Anne Frank House: "The footage of last night’s events in Amsterdam during the Kristallnacht commemoration is both shocking and shameful. It is unimaginable that something like this could happen in Amsterdam in 2024. Pro-Palestinian rioters deliberately sought out Israeli supporters to attack and abuse them. There is absolutely no justification for the unprecedented antisemitic behavior displayed last night. There is no excuse for hatred toward Jews. We urge the Amsterdam city council to take all necessary measures to ensure that the Jewish community feels safe and secure in the city."
