Anne Frank statue defaced

None

Aug. 4, 2024 — Today the statue of Anne Frank on Merwedeplein square was defaced again. ‘Free Gaza’ was sprayed on the statue with red paint, and the hands had also been painted red. The statue was similarly defaced on July 9.

The Anne Frank House responded to the defacement with horror. Ronald Leopold, executive director of the Anne Frank House, said: “This vandalism has touched our hearts yet again. The statue reminds us of a young girl, with ambitions and dreams. A girl who was murdered simply because she was Jewish. The daubing of the statue today is even more painful, on the day that Anne Frank was arrested, exactly 80 years ago today.”

The Anne Frank House is permanently committed to working with others to counter antisemitism and other forms of group hatred.

The Anne Frank House is reporting the defacement to the police, as it did the previous time.
