Initiate conversation about antisemitism
In the classroom, you may unexpectedly encounter insulting remarks about Jews, especially in light of the increased antisemitic incidents linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. This approach facilitates discussion around the topic, using six scenario cards to help students identify various forms of antisemitism and understand the importance of speaking out against it and other types of discrimination.
Getting started
These cards provide a safe way to initiate conversations about antisemitism in the classroom. Students work in small groups, examining each card that presents a recognizable, contemporary example of antisemitism. They discuss their observations and rank the cards from 'not serious' to 'serious', developing arguments for their perspectives on the severity of various statements. Afterward, the class debriefs to explore the reasoning behind each group’s classifications, while also discussing potential actions. Students share ideas on how to respond to manifestations of antisemitism and express the importance of combatting its harmful effects.
