In the late summer of 1933, Edith travelled back and forth between Germany and Amsterdam, looking for a suitable home for the family. She sent letters and postcards to let Gertrud Naumann, her neighbour in Frankfurt am Main, know how she was doing.

Mail for Gertrud
‘I am busy looking at apartments and don't know yet when I will get back to Frankfurt. The childeren are having a good time in Achen.’
In December 1933, Edith described their new home at Merwedeplein.
‘Our apartment is similar to the one on Ganghoferstrasse, only much smaller. There is no room in our bedroom for anything except the beds. No cellar, no pantry, but everything is bright, convenient, and warm, so that I can manage easily without a maid.’
