Anne, like other Jewish children, gave away some of her toys before going into hiding. She left some precious things, such as this metal marble tin, with Toosje Kupers, the girl who lived next door.

‘I think that she may have felt that she had to get rid of things that were important to her, perhaps on her parents' advice. Otherwise, other people would have taken them and that was not necessary.’
She always held on to the items and donated them to the Anne Frank House in 2014.
