While they were in hiding, Margot took a correspondence course in ‘Elementary Latin’ with the LOI, publisher of correspondence courses, under the name of Bep Voskuijl.

Margot kept up with her studies in the Secret Annex
‘The teacher, by the name of A.C. Nielson, is also very nice and funny. He must be happy to have found such a bright student.’
In 1947, Otto sent the teacher a copy of Anne’s Diary in appreciation. In the accompanying letter, he wrote:
‘You took great care over the lessons that gave my daughter Margot such pleasure.’
