Three-year-old Margot with her grandmother, Rosa Holländer, in Aachen. The caption in Edith’s handwriting reads: 'Der neue Koffer' (‘The new suitcase’) (1929). Margot stayed with her grandmother on a regular basis and continued to do so after the Frank family emigrated to the Netherlands in 1933.
As Germany became more and more unsafe, Otto and Edith asked the Minister of Justice for permission to have Rosa come to the Netherlands. They were granted permission and in 1939, she moved in with them at Merwedeplein. She passed away six months before the family went into hiding.
This photograph was in an album with childhood pictures of Margot and Anne.
