Germany has to give up a lot of territory. Alsace-Lorraine is assigned to France and Posen and Memel are assigned to Poland and Lithuania. Danzig becomes a Free City under the supervision of the League of Nations.
Austria-Hungary is falling apart into new states, because the different peoples that made up Austria-Hungary gain self-determination. This is one of the Fourteen Points of the peace plan of Woodrow Wilson, the American president.
